Title: Plot Outlines (IMPORTANT)
Saint Kane - June 16, 2010 09:59 PM (GMT)
List the plot events of each book in a nice, bulleted format. From there, we can decide which elements to remove to keep the story more on-track but without losing the important things.
Example: When Loor falls into the river on Denduron and we learn that she can't swim. Is that really important to the story? Would that scene take up 5 minutes that we don't need? We could just as easily give her a line somewhere else "Pendragon, I cannot swim." Takes 5 seconds and saves precious screen time. So we might decide that the scene should be cut out of the outline, thus saving a lot of time writing a script for a scene that isn't needed.
They'll probably end up looking like this:
Outline For Book X- Event
- Event
- Event
- Event
- Event
- Event
- Event
- Event
For now, list
every event or plot point that you come across. We'll need a list for all 10 books.
This project isn't as lengthy as the Cast Listing or Descriptive Notes assignments, so feel free to claim more than one.
This is the code for making a list:
| CODE |

Event
Event
Event
|
Now, we need the volunteers:

I'll start off going for Quillan Games :D
I took that one for descriptive notes and cast characters, so I wouldn't mind plotting out events.
Quick question. How specific should the events be? Example, at the start of book 7, Bobby recaps what happened on Zadaa, so if I labelled that scene as EVENT 1, would that event include ALL that happened (Loor being killed, Bobby's fight with Saint Dane, Loor coming back, etc). Or should the events be seperated in more detail?
Saint Kane - June 17, 2010 01:22 AM (GMT)
You can use "Recap" as the title of that scene and include it if you'd like.
"Arrival on Quillan" is probably another one, but that could actually be divided into "Flume", "Quig Attack", and "Arcade". Make them specific as needed, but only a couple words to title each scene if possible. Certainly no more than a full line (unless you elaborate in parenthesis).

I don't mind doing up another. I wouldn't mind taking Pilgrims of Rayne :) (just finished re-reading that one)
dimond_017 - June 17, 2010 02:58 AM (GMT)
I can take Black Water because I'll be doing it for the cast lists anyway. :)
And would it be better to list each with one word descriptions or as short a description as possible?
Saint Kane - June 17, 2010 03:44 AM (GMT)
Actually, a little longer than the ones Laberge's girl just did. A little more description.
For example, "Dinner" doesn't bring back enough of a memory for me to remember what the events were in that scene ;)
So a few words to describe each scene, closer to a line if you have to get the point across.
The QG scenes were good in terms of clever and brief titles, but I guess I gave bad instructions :/
For example, "Where's Mark" might be "Mark goes missing" telling us what happens, not just what the audience perceives. I'll probably do Merchant of Death as an example when I get the chance.
LaBerge's girl - June 17, 2010 11:55 AM (GMT)
Oh, alrighty. I get it. I can go back and change up a few things, not a problem. I'll add a few more details.
Saint Kane - June 17, 2010 06:06 PM (GMT)
Alright, I finally found the post Helios made. I've been looking for it (can you believe our forum is big enough for me to lose things? ^.^).
Topic: Movie Numbers?| QUOTE |
e.g. The Reality Bug. They arrive on Veelox, Gunny pursues Saint Dane to Eelong. Bobby meats Aja and learns what Lifelight is. He has his first jump. He learns about the Reality Bug. He has his second jump to test the bug, it malfunctions. They escape and decide to find Dr Zetlin to get his code to shut down the system. They go to the Barbican (sp?) and find him. Reality Bug attacks them. They escape and destroy the bug by shutting the system down. People still use Lifelight and Saint Dane wins. |
That was Helios summary of the important major events. Not quiteas detailed and broken up as we might like, but it's 10 major events. The things that really drive the story and get it where it needs to be.
I once had to edit the original Star Wars down to 15 minutes in a film class. It actually worked pretty well. I just had to cut out the stuff that didn't affect the storyline, which oftentimes meant removing good portions, if not all, of the action scenes, because they're part of what happens, but they don't change the story much. It's a lot of detail, when you can just say "lightsaber fight".
But you'll notice that Helios used partial sentences to describe what happens, so that's a good length. Descriptive, but short.
LaBerge's girl - June 17, 2010 06:11 PM (GMT)
I see...not in a whole lot of detail, but simple and to the point.
I'll go through again and look for the events that really drive book 7.
Saint Kane - June 17, 2010 06:17 PM (GMT)
Alright. Keep what you have, but summarize also.
LaBerge's girl - June 17, 2010 06:38 PM (GMT)
Here's a shortened version, with the specific events broken done with simpler titles. Hope this looks a little better. I believe these would count as the "driving" events. Should I go ahead though and keep both versions, the detailed version and the shortened version?

- He’s kidnapped by the Dados

LaBerge's girlYou are really good at these. I'm so jealous. I cannot remember the basic facts for Black Water and trying to remember it in my head was almost impossible, so I'm rereading the book. I'll post below what I have so far and will hopefully get the rest of it up soon.

LaBerge's girl - June 22, 2010 10:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Dimond :D
Well, I just looked yours over and it looks pretty good! Nice start. Seems like you've picked out the key events.
As for it being too much...hmm...well, basically what I did was I went through each chapter, looked it over and asked myself, "What are the key events here that really drive this story?" I tried looking over the smaller stuff and tried looking at the few events that truly moved the story along.
As for what you've got so far, my only suggestion maybe would be trying to find a way at taking the events and shortening them. Example, when I went through LCoF, Spader brings Bobby and Press to Grallion is the big event here and smaller events would include: them going to Grolo's, Bobby and Press working on Grallion, etc. Basically, take the main event and that's what you have.
Hope that makes sense
