Title: Why?
Description: Another thing we need to know...
2nogardnep - November 1, 2008 12:28 AM (GMT)
We need to know why DJ didn't do the movie deal, that way we can put our heads together and fix it. Someone needs to ask him. Who wants to?
Saint Kane - November 19, 2008 06:56 AM (GMT)
What?
We don't want DJ to do a movie deal unless it will be done right.
This is a fan-based project to put together the specifics of how the movie should feel before he even considers doing movie rights.

Pretty cool idea.. making the movie and all..
I think of some acters my self sometime playing Bobby and Press and everybody else..
but don't you think 10 series of a movie is a bit.. too much?
cuz pendragon got 10 books so far.. so.. there gotta be 10 movies so the story will be complete..
But I'm totaly in.. and i can help you with pictures or advertisment.. I'm good in Photoshop.. and the pendragon forume is the perfect place to put all the ads..
Saint Kane - January 6, 2009 05:03 AM (GMT)
That's good. I'll probably send a mass PM to rally all the users back when Book 10 comes out. And we'll throw down some massive advertising then too.
Can you make gifs? (moving graphics?) If not that's fine...
I'll probably try to give the forum a new look as well, but for the next few months, I will be doing other things as well. If you'd like to continue contributing with ideas, post them in the appropriate forum areas...
I'll try to make most of them postable too.
Any time you want to call me back to the forum, just send me a PM and I'll get an email alert. :)
10 movies would be best. Which means when "we" pitch it to the production studios it will have to appear very good and/or profitable. Our main argument is that, unlike something like Eragon:angry: , we will follow the story so that all fans are satisfied.
It won't be 100% identical for reasons like length, but if possible we would include D.J. to supervise changes to the story.
A filming schedule would theoretically have to be set so that characters would appear to age appropriately. Also, being that Bobby is 14 when the story starts, and this project won't even happen for at least 5 years I think. So think of actors that are 6-9 right now. lol :D
Most likely the younger actors (Bobby, Mark, Courtney, Spader) aren't even big right now. They should be actors no one has heard of... which means casting sessions and auditions.
Characters like Press, Saint Dane and others should be well seasoned actors that will attract attention.
If at all possible, cast Will Smith!!! :D hahaha. He's a really big seller right now. And he's good.
Saint Danez Acolyte - March 28, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
I agree that 10 movies is the best choice. There are no movies that could be put together other than The Never War and Reality Bug. That's because the Reality Bug ends different than the other books I have read. If suggested i could help Saint Kane with jobs within my ability.

I think that there should be 4 movies. The first three are each three books, and the fourth is the final book. If they put out one movie a year, the actors will be about the same age as their characters all the time.

If possible we could make the movies slower and better by casting a kid who is 12 or 13 and we can make them look older. We then have an extra year or so to make the movies. I also think we need at least one big actor to stay all through the books. Maybe like Saint Kane said, we could cast Will Smith as Gunny because that will draw the attention of kids who just like Will Smith a lot.
In book 8 especially, we need to take a few unnecessary details out because that movie would be maybe 3 hours. But, there is a lot of narrating so I guess it could be shorter than I think.Ideas/responses?

Isn't Will Smith too young for Gunny? Anyway, I still think that 4 movies should be made. With necessary editing, of course. For example.
Movie 1
Title: The Never War. Books 1-3. Suggested editing: Bobby spending lots of time on Grallion, Mitchell stealing Bobby's journals from Mark, shorten the amount of time spent at the Manhattan Tower Hotel, and time spent on Denduron in general.
Movie 2
Title: The Rivers of Zadaa. Books 4-6. Suggested editing: Time spent in the prison on Eelong shortened, Bobby's Western fantasy cut, less time in the Barbican, and training at Mooraj.
Movie 3
Title: Raven Rise. Books 7-9. Suggested editing: Less time setting up Siry and the Jakills, and the City of Rune. On Quillan, more games and action and with Blok, and less hanging out in the castle. On Ibara, Bobby needs to find out about Telleo's true identity and get to the flume faster. Less chatting with Saint Dane.
Movie 4
Title: The Soldiers of Halla. Book 10. Need i say more?
Saint Danez Acolyte - May 3, 2009 01:29 PM (GMT)
I don't think 4 movies is enough. Also, we shouldn't cut the western fantasy because it brings lots of suspense and would make the movies have better reviews. And also we should keep chatting with Saint Dane because at least I thought a lot of it was funny. But I guess your idea could work..... Maybe we should do a complete layout of your idea and ask Saint Kane what he thinks about it when we're done.
Saint Kane - May 6, 2009 11:13 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna say 6 at the least.
1. 1, 2
2. 3, 4
3. 5, 6
4. 7, 8
5. 9
6. 10
Something like that. But it depends on what can be tossed out from each movie.
Saint Danez Acolyte - May 12, 2009 12:34 AM (GMT)
To be honest, I think 8 is way too long to be paired up with another movie. Any other ideas?
Saint Kane - June 22, 2009 01:37 AM (GMT)
Now that I've read SoH, I'm thinking 9 and 10 could almost be combined. I'll have to read through again though.
sjk - June 22, 2009 09:03 AM (GMT)
Maybe we could do all of 9 and half of ten? They're splitting The Deathly Hallows in half for Harry Potter sort of like that.
alkaria~vs~cloral - June 26, 2009 11:36 PM (GMT)
I don't know... Where would we cut it? The suspense would be way too high! Usually at the end of a movie, the good guys win, bla bla bla, everything is sorted out, bla bla bla, the bad guys are punished, the end. With SoH, the rebels and the exiles only have their final victory at the very end. It would be very awkward (and I am not sure the viewers would like it!) if we just cut the movie before they go to Eelong or something. I say the whole book stays together.
Saint Danez Acolyte - June 27, 2009 11:56 PM (GMT)
Oh, then they would have to but tickets to see the rest! Nice but it would tick some people off.
LxShutdown - June 28, 2009 04:03 AM (GMT)
I think whatever we do, we shouldn't take too many details out of the books, like I've seen with so many book-based movies..the horror...-shudders-
Saint Kane - June 28, 2009 06:01 AM (GMT)
Agreed.
Some parts will be unnecessary to get the point across, but it's possible.
I have successfully edited the original Star Wars down to 15 minutes, keeping only the parts most important to the plot (and some gratuitous sequences). Part of a class assignment at my college.
Some parts have to be cut out. Even Lord of the Rings had to do it.
But it is important to keep as much of it in as possible. And not make stupid changes like the Harry Potter movies did.

i dont think we should mix movies.it just wouldnt make sense.we should just try to make 10 complete movies.

i say none of them should be put together.it wouldnt make sense to put 2 territories in one movie.
Saint Kane - July 27, 2009 08:56 PM (GMT)
True. At best, the last two movies could be grouped into an action-packed storyline. But ideally, 10 movies.
The plan is to have a good pitch, which would sell the producers and production companies on the idea of throwing good money behind it.
Which, AGAIN, we will not do. It's up to DJ after this is all said and done.
RYSTAR*18 - July 29, 2009 06:10 PM (GMT)
when exactly will this be said and done?how will we know?
Saint Kane - August 16, 2009 04:23 AM (GMT)
Well... when all the film components of one book are done, that book's 'pitch' will essentially be set.
We'll make writers' notes on the style of shooting and parts to keep and remove. Then possibly show it to him.
However, we'll ultimately have to do that 10 times to complete the series.
What this means is that if we want it done soon, we'll have to pick up speed. Meaning writers should come here to discuss after they finish their homework or whatever.
I should be more present as well.
RYSTAR*18 - August 20, 2009 04:45 PM (GMT)
cool. cant wait to see what he thinks of our posts.and i just wanted to answer that question on page one.i was just fooling around on my computer and found that he saw how popular the books were and didn't want to alienate his fans by making a movie but,he still said he still considered it.i think this movie forum will soften him up to the idea.
Saint Kane - December 6, 2009 05:37 PM (GMT)
I know.
And once we have all the info, we'll need a good organizer to put it in Outline form. If it looks complete enough, we just might light a spark in him.
RYSTAR*18 - December 11, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
I've never met him considering he lives on the opposite side of the united states, but from what I here he sounds like a really cool guy.I feel like he'll look at our posts and think to himself "Look at all of these dedicated fans. That's it,I have to mak a movie deal, this is just too much!".Or at least I hope so.
Saint Kane - December 11, 2009 02:20 AM (GMT)
Exactly.
And as soon as we actually have the critical planning for the entirety of Merchant of Death, I'll show him this site.
Exie27 - April 29, 2010 04:13 PM (GMT)
While 10 movies does seem incredibly arduous and excessive, there's really no other way to do this series. Unless we made it into like, an HBO series, each episode running an hour, so that it can go on as long as it needs to...
Saint Kane - April 29, 2010 08:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, and that really wouldn't be the same. So we're being very optimistic, but the series has enough potential, and unlike Harry Potter, it won't be butchered. That's what we're making sure of here.
Exie27 - April 29, 2010 08:54 PM (GMT)
I think if fans really banded together more like this, we wouldn't have such awful book-movies *coughEragoncough*
Saint Kane - April 29, 2010 08:59 PM (GMT)
:( So true.
It's something else that excites me about this though. We could all literally make history. The first ever movie that started on an online forum. ^_^
More specifically. Made by fans. Made for fans. (or at least the pre-production)
LaBerge's girl - April 30, 2010 01:17 AM (GMT)
True, and that's such an important part...the fans.
It's about sticking together as true fans and assuring our favourite works aren't butchered!
I know if anything like what happened with Eragon ever happened to Pendragon...ugh (shakes head)
We won't let that happen though :D
It's just like Uncle Press says, "This is the way it was meant to be." And Pendragon most certainly will not be ruined. No way!
"Hobey ho, let's go!"
Saint Kane - April 30, 2010 05:01 AM (GMT)
Bravo. *applause, bows, and cheering* ;P
I agree though.
Winter Rayne - March 12, 2011 06:23 AM (GMT)
Am I only one who thinks all efforts should be concentrated to focus on the first book? It's not like all 10 will need to be pitched together.
Also, if they did accept the idea, I'm sure the script this forum comes up with will be completely rewritten by professionals. Not too mention all models and etc will be completely remade.
Saint Kane - April 5, 2011 07:35 PM (GMT)
I don't see a Denver tour date yet, but if/when it shows up, I know now that I won't be finishing all the scripts by then. Still have to finish the MoD script and revise it as best as possible, and present that with the rest of our ideas.
Unwound Midnight - April 7, 2011 09:52 PM (GMT)
I have spring break in a week, I should be able to get more of SoH done....
